A Daunting Task
It can be nerve racking to finally pull the trigger on that new design for your business. Will I like what I get? How much say will I have in the process? How much thought is put into my specific situation?
All of these are valid concerns. To alleviate these fears when shopping for graphic design, look for 1) a consistently strong portfolio and 2) a clear outline of the process so there aren't any surprises.
With that second point in mind, here is Clearly Sharp's process for logo design:
The Interview
As a first step with logo clients, we arrange a phone / video call, or ideally meet in person, to learn as much about the business as possible. You want a logo to capture the essence of your brand. Questions like: do you want a more MODERN feel?.... or something that feels hand made?; what do you want the customer to think about you? etc.
Initial Exploration of Ideas
Once we know the business inside and out, we begin an initial exploration of ideas. This is a very rough "throw all the ideas on paper" stage. The best logo ideas are often not the first idea, so it's important to thoroughly explore many different concepts.
Narrowing Down to the Winning Concepts
After that's done, we pick 2-4 concepts with potential (still in a very basic form), and send them to you for feedback. We'll tell you which one we think works best, but we'll only send you work we love; you can pick any of them and you'll have a strong logo.
Final Refinement
As a final step, the chosen concept is recreated again a number of times to arrive at its final form. Colors are selected, and the final product is delivered to the client (in whatever sizes and formats are requested) along with a couple of mock-ups to showcase the logo with style!
And that's how it works!
